Irish people spend nearly three times the amount of Greeks or Czechs per night when they go on holiday. That’s according to data from the EU’s statistics agency.
“When looking at spending per night, tourists from Luxembourg spent the most (€183), followed by Austrian tourists (€161) and Irish tourists (€143), while residents of Greece (€48), Poland (€52) and Czechia (€57) spent the least per night.”
The number of trips made by Europeans last year was finally back to pre-covid levels. Three-quarters of the 1.14 billion tourism trips were to domestic destinations, Eurostat says.

“In terms of duration, over half of the tourism trips (56.5%) where short trips with 1 to 3 overnight stays.”
Europeans spent relatively more on tourism trips last year taking into account transport, accommodation and services, totally an estimated €553 billion, up by 16.5 percent compared with 2022.
On average, Europeans spent €97 per night during trips with at least 1 overnight stay. Irish people spent an average of €143.
