An EU office in Ukraine has been severely damaged by Russian bombing overnight.
European Commission President, Ursula von der Leyen, says she is “outraged” by the attack.
The Ukrainian authorities say at least 14 people including three children were killed in the Russian strike on Kyiv.
Two missiles landed within 50 metres of the European Union’s delegation office in the Ukrainian capital, according to von der Leyen.
“It shows that the Kremlin will stop at nothing to terrorise Ukraine…even targeting the European Union”, she added.
No EU staff were injured but the Ambassador of European Union to Ukraine said the building has been severely damaged.
“I’m outraged by the attack on Kyiv, also hitting our EU offices. This was the deadliest drone and missile attack on the capital since July”, said President von der Leyen.
The European Commission would put forward new sanction proposals against Russia “soon”, she confirmed.
“We are ensuring strong, unwavering support to Ukraine, our neighbour, partner, friend and our future member [state of the European Union]”, she said.
Ireland’s Tánaiste said the attacks were outrageous.
“I strongly condemn Russian missile attacks on Ukraine overnight”, Simon Harris TD said.
“These brutal attacks also damaged civilian infrastructure, including the EU Delegation in Kyiv.
This morning, I have directed my officials to summon the Russian representative at their Embassy here so they can be left in no doubt as regards our outrage at what happened in Kyiv last night.
Russia must immediately halt its criminal attacks and agree to a full and unconditional ceasefire.”
