Ireland’s Department of Rural and Community Development has announced that it has allocated €96 million towards peace funding.

The money will be distributed under eight different headings including support for victims and survivors, rural regeneration and for cross-boarder civic projects.

Although the department is putting forward €96 million, 80 percent of that will be reimbursed by the EU through the European Regional Development Fund.

The PEACEPLUS Programme is worth €1.1 billion over six years up to 2027. The UK, Ireland and the EU all contribute. The fund has continued to operate despite Brexit.

PEACEPLUS is “designed to support peace and prosperity across Northern Ireland and the border counties of Ireland”, according to the Special EU Programmes Body, SEUPB, which was set up to manage the funding.
